My Purpose: To Re-purpose When faced with what to do with Encyclopedia sets from 2004 my Crafty brain waves kicked into high gear. I wanted these relics to be a part of what makes our media center funky and cool. Outdated books are never really outdated they just need to be re-purposed. I thought they would make great table legs for my new teen lounge area and the perfect top for those legs—pallets. I have been a pallet connoisseur for some time and when new text books were delivered to the school this summer I snagged up some gems. I took my vision and a bunch of old Encyclopedias up to Mocksville for the day to get some advice and help from my Super Sculptor dad, Dempsy Calhoun. We discovered, through trial and error, hex bolts are better than carriage bolts, a 3/8 JUMBO size drill bit can put holes through 8 encyclopedias skillfully C Clamped together, and deck screws will secure a caster to an encyclopedia. With all the legs made I did my due diligence in the sanding and painting department. Assembly took place back in the Media Center with my giant drill bit. The final touch was adding the non-locking casters. After all, things on wheels are a busy librarian’s best friend.
